satur9:

I’m supposed to say something profound here but I can’t really place it, and I didn’t notice how incredibly good this track was until GITS:SAC was over and done with and I was looping the five soundtrack albums like a crazed fanboy. I’m this close to rewatching it for moments like these where I can pinpoint (and I can; I know the OSTs like the back of my hand now almost) my favourite tracks.

This is classic Kanno complexity. The same haunting tortured male vocals filtered over a solid I hate being a music illiterate rhythm line thing, the electronica intro before the meandering but never aimless rock affair—it’s just like Good By My Master, except while that one was a pretty straightforward  affair with what it wanted to convey, Dear John is different.

I’m guessing it’s the 2nd Gig, and Kuze-related since, well, you know.

MUSIC ILLITERACY HIGH FIVE!

Man I like this track too though I never bothered to break down this and most of Kanno’s music (especially the atmospheric ones). Perhaps my favorite tune of hers that evokes a similar response (from me, dunno about anyone else), is this:

Batou’s Tachikoma gloats at having exclusivity, and uses a monkeywrench as an antenna/horn.
The other Tachikoma somewhat resent this. The question: “Do external differences really matter?”
Batou’s unit says yes, and proceeds to talk about Togusa. Togusa brings around a photo(s) of his children and is said to fuss about the parts that resemble him most.
Tachikoma theorizes that Togusa’s lack of affection for machines is due to his not having his genes in them.
Another Tachikoma counters with the idea that Togusa or humans in general will resent machines for becoming too much like humans. The lines that separate human and robot have been reduced to minor differences in the human body.
If the Tachikoma were designed to look human, their human pilots would begin to identify or empathize with them in weird ways. Tachikoma thinks they would be despised more if they were humanoid.
The very humanoid Office Lady robot (not its official type) is tolerated because its processing ability is limited; it poses no threat to humans, and is therefore tolerated for looking like a human.
Since every artificial object in the world was made to be useful to humans, it makes sense that machines are expected to respond like machines, and not like humans.
The Tachikoma faking archaic robot speech is lulz.

Tachikoma begins to understand the concept of the existence of God.
In it’s terms, God as a concept would be similar to zero. ‘Nothing’ is hard to conceptually prove, as it is ‘something’ in concept form, therefore not nil. Still, zero as a digit or unit of language is a powerful idea in the digital realm. The binary system depends on it.
The Tachikoma makes this conceptual leap: Batou has a Ghost, it doesn’t. No matter how much mechanization Batou adds on his body, it will never negate his Ghost, his self. However, his having a Ghost means that he can die.
On the other hand, the Tachikoma can accumulate as much data as it can and never have its own Ghost.
