Think about it: all this referencing of popular and/or cult media works, it really allows us geeks to wank off to our “getting it,” and it’s effective because the joke is blatant and driven to its predictable extreme.
We know it’s coming, we groan while it’s coming, and when it came we aren’t really fulfilled … and maybe we feel a little (or a lot) dirty for having indulged ourselves with it.
Personally, I think it’s brilliant.
